3 years. Base salary + 20% commission and bi-annual discretionary raises. Minimum hour requirement per month and 20% of every hour billed over that.
4 years. 25% commission (1099) and annual discretionary raises and bonuses. No billable requirement.
3 years. 50% commission (W2), no base salary, no billable requirement.
What is commission in a law firm? Is that billables? Money actually received?
50% of billables, assuming the client has money in their trust. If you bill $10k and client has all $10k in trust, you earn $5k. If you bill $10k and client has $8k and doesn’t replenish, you earn $4k until they pay and then you pick up the remaining $1k at that time.
I pay a 3rd year associate $80k plus discretionary bonuses. No commission. The goal is normally 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 - meaning 1/3 of revenue generated by associate to her, 1/3 goes to overhead (insurances, rent, etc.), and 1/3 profit to firm.
I am an 8th year at a small to midsize and am salaried with a bonus upon collected and generated. 0/10 do not recommend
I’m a 5th year. Base salary with a minimum monthly billable. Discretionary bonuses. After three months at the firm, my year-end bonus was 1.7% of my annual salary. The following full year (2020), my bonus doubled and it 2.8% of my salary (which increased 6 months in). No health/dental/vision but a healthy monthly stipend to get my own.
