EY work life balance is way better, objectively, I've seen the utilization KPIs and ours are lower and our culture is generally open. I can easily and freely Instant message any and all of my partners for anything even just to shoot the shit. Deloitte is all brand power and the reputation is there for sure, but if that's not all that matters to you come to EY. As far as IT Risk, I started in it (there's no coding or back end anything), but I'm going to tell you and I want you to listen carefully. RUN. Do NOT start in IT risk unless it's your only way in. It's extremely monotonous and your KPIS as a staff and senior are way more dependent on how well you can sit down and just smash through endless workpapers as opposed to solving problems and actually getting smart on things. It's not a good life, I promise. However, if you're just doing an internship I would be willing to bet you can leverage that and try to go into tech consulting (SAP, Oracle, Salesforce implementations/advisory, cybersecurity, data and analytics, etc.). Life is MUCH better there and the pay is more. Don't make the mistakes I did.
KPMG is incredible. I think it’s the best firm period. I have friends/family in every big4 and major company and they all complain about their job. I love my job so much that I feel like I have to filter my praise cause I’m sure it’s annoying. And I can’t even offer my friends jobs with limited openings in my area.
Everyone I’ve met at KPMG is a leader. They also look out for me and only want me to succeed. It’s in the culture. I used to say this 2 years ago and folks would disagree but I’ve seen it slowly worked it’s way across functions and practices (at least in advisory/consulting).
Sure we have the least revenue out of the other B4’s ..but who cares? We aren’t being tortured. I would much rather work with people I value, respect and love while loving my job then feel more “prestigious” at another firm.
Is EY’s offer in the FSO?
Deloitte then EY in sequence. Deloitte name has better reputation of all the big4. EY has a better reputation then KPMG. If EY is offering a significant amount more $$ than Deloitte, then might be worth going with EY over Deloitte.
It’s under consulting - technology risk. I’m not positive on if that falls under FSO, apologies.
Sounds like an FSO offer, I would accept EY (impartially). If not, then it doesn’t matter as much who you pick (D, PWC, EY would be my choices).
Depends on the city and the clients they have. I’d look into that to determine
I’ve worked at Deloitte and EY. I would intern at Deloitte and then leverage the brand to not do IT risk consulting.
@d1 what different areas can you go to from IT risk? I really enjoy working with people, and not as much the backend stuff.
It’s best to leverage the brand and apply somewhere else if you don’t like the work. It’s hard to transfer because these companies need people in risk and everyone wants to transfer. That’s why I would choose Deloitte because they have the best brand out of the companies you mentioned (although marginally).
Oh, and just don't go to KPMG lol. KPMG doesn't do anything better than either EY or Deloitte. D and EY both have way more brand power and EY has better culture. It's really like BIG3 and KPMG.
