Rattlesnake sightings are not uncommon in San Antonio, TX, especially during the warmer months. While it can be alarming to hear about these sightings in the news or on social media, it's important to keep in mind that rattlesnake bites are relatively rare, and most encounters can be avoided by taking basic precautions. If you live in an area where rattlesnakes are common, it's a good idea to keep your yard tidy, avoid leaving out food or water that may attract rodents (a common prey of rattlesnakes), and be aware of your surroundings when hiking or spending time outdoors. If you do encounter a rattlesnake, give it plenty of space and call a professional wildlife removal service if necessary. With this in mind, I've seen 3 in my 20 years living here.
I have lived here for over 20 years, and it’s my second time living here, so over 23 years all together and I have never seen a rattlesnake. I’ve seen garden snakes in my yard, I’ve seen bull snakes at outdoor areas, thankfully, never in my immediate vicinity.
Lifelong SA resident and I have only seen a rattlesnake once out on ranch outside San Antonio (Floresville area).
But since we do hike with our dogs out in the hill country we get them the rattlesnake vaccine.
Get a walking stick. Snakes, including rattle snakes, are common and a healthy part of our environment. Snakes will generally avoid people. When we walk into their space, they will let you know.
20+ years, and I have a koi pond in my backyard.
Plenty of critters, but have never seen a rattlesnake.
Nope, been here a couple of years and so far no rattlesnakes!! Fingers crossed it stays that way lol
