Hi everyone. A PDM specialist here. Joined Deloitte 5+ years back as ‘Senior Solution Engineer -On-site’.Later in June 2017 all these ‘on-site’ folks got rebranded as PDM. Slowly started to realize how PDM is getting sidelined as a ‘discountable’ group. Sometimes I feel contract jobs are better than being at PDM , but obviously tied up with D for visa related issues. No career progression so far and don’t see any positive changes in the near future as well.I think it’s high time to call it a day.

So your ancestors came to the land of immigrants but you wanna shut down the door for anyone else?
Different time. Different nation. Everything was different back then. By your logic since my grandfather smoked a pack a day I should also smoke a pack a day despite all the new evidence that points otherwise.
How about we invest in education so we actually have a talent pool that's not filled with illiterate morons, relative to the wealth of our country, so we dont need to artificially pick worse candidates (u.s citizens).
This is obviously a short-term boost for some individuals (me lol) but sure to send the good talent we wanted off into making better businesses elsewhere.
If you can't see that, you're probably a result of our education system, so I can't blame you that much.
More reasonable in theory, but in what delusional world do you think that money will flow through to our education system in a deliberate or meaningful way?
Does not seem like they intended to do that from what I have heard, so that's a nice hypothetical. Regardless of that, there are better ways of allocating money to our education rather than disrupting how we get top talent.
If anything, the 100k will be another lever trump pulls to reduce the deficit coming from his big beautiful bill :), and if you connect the dots, this is all extremely short term planning
Everyone’s ancestors came here as immigrants. We threw the Boston tea party to protest against tariffs. Seems like we all need to take a look at history to resolve our differences
Settlers= people who build on undeveloped land and create thriving communities and wealth
Immigrants= people who enjoin themselves to an existing, developed society
Immigrants contribute to a society and can enrich it, but they are not the scaffolding as they arrive post-development.
Man, imagine losing home court advantage and still not being good enough for that job you wanted… stay salty. The number of companies willing to sponsor for job openings nowadays are so little but hey, whatever spin you want to put on it to make yourself feel better.
This isn’t going to change a thing for you

Ok pwc, little man syndrome. Don’t project your failures on others because you can’t compete. Also you don’t own the country and stop acting like you can tell who can come and not. I’ll rather live with an immigrant working hard for a better life than some entitled brat like you. Why don’t you pack you stuff and go back first chuck

Agreed, this is the best thing he’s introduced. Need to double down, put a cap on H1Bs for the country, put a cap per company, raise the fee even more. H1B should be an extreme edge case for talent that can’t be found in the US. Aka the type of person that if the US doesn’t employ them then they will be worse off for it. This is likely less than 1% of current H1B.
We need to prioritize our own workers first. Offshoring needs to be dealt with too. It has gotten out of hand.
Pro
You misunderstand the H1B system. It’s being used to hire cheap labor. The system was initially intended to hire talent you can’t find in US. That isn’t how it is being used today, and that is a fact.
As you said earlier, in your own words, “cry about it”. Because this is just the first step being taken to get rid of it.
OP immigrants aren’t your problem, trust me, stop wasting your energy.
I don’t think immigrants are my problem. I have a problem with the exploitation of workers and the abuse of systems.
TACO
OP…. That can not help you land in MBB.
Yeah, not happening.
To be clear:
1.) This is NOT an annual fee. It’s a one-time fee that applies only to the petition.
2.) Those who already hold H-1B visas and are currently outside of the country right now will NOT be charged $100,000 to re-enter.
H-1B visa holders can leave and re-enter the country to the same extent as they normally would; whatever ability they have to do that is not impacted by yesterday’s proclamation.
3.) This applies only to new visas, not renewals, and not current visa holders.
It will first apply in the next upcoming lottery cycle.

You have too much faith in the Barbie doll spokeswomen lol
You do realize these visas are for highly skilled specialized positions.. oh and Models. Which one exactly is taking your job?
Pro
I’ve literally had to take calls at 4am because an H1B hire was “on extended vacation” in India. Can promise you this guy is not highly skilled in a specialized position. Maybe they’re a model and you got me VP1
Oh man you did not get the promotion that your better performing colleague did?! Read more, get knowledgeable and try harder next time
This 1000%. So tired of all these woke DEI crybabies that think the world owes them something. This is what the department of education and teachers unions have brought on us.
I love trump and everything he’s done is gods work
How H-1Bs work in IT:
"Hi, I am recruiter so-and-so with (calls from 732 area code, says they are an American name like 'Doug', but certainly is in India). Would you like to go take a job doing something that isn't in your experience in Boise, Idaho?"
Me: "No, of course not, I live in Florida, that is not in my experience. I would not be interested in taking that job."
Then the sponsoring company can say there's 'no qualified applicants' that are US citizens that want the job. So then they bring in H-1Bs, and treat them like surfs, because the sponsoring company controls whether they stay or go in the US.
These people get worked harder than US citizen employees (because they live in fear of getting fired), they get paid less, and they get sent home on a whim.
I personally helped H-1B's that worked for me get new jobs after the company let them go. Every H-1B I've worked for was super nice and a hard worker. But as a group, I would send every IT H-1B home tomorrow if I could. I've seen whole departments of US employees devastated by RIFs where the company brought in H-1Bs to to replace them.
Anyone who comes here on an H-1B and is expecting that they're 100% going to stay is being foolish.
It is illegal to pay them less or work them more and aside the Trump administration that has been pretty heavily enforced at both federal and state level.
And the no available Americans to take the job thing can work like you said if the job is in Boise but companies are required to submit documentation that shows the skill set is not available where the job is located
We need these people here not inventing things in other countries and because we have massive skill gaps and labor shortages in IT, in nursing, in doctors, these are where the gaps are being filled
Do you think that....regular noncriminal, non-billionaire people can just...afford this? You don't think this is just going to increase the mega untouchable criminal lords of other countries coming into this country to do...criminal activities they can get away with?
How you figure?
In addition to accelerating off shoring and putting us companies, particularly in tech, at a massive disadvantage to foreign competitors in the war for top talent it is going to exacerbate mightily our doctor and nursing shortage.
There are about 1.6 million open positions for the type of workers who get H-1B currently that companies can not fill regardless of where they workers are from.
Further other counties will retaliate so Americans seeking expat experience will be limited as well
If you were good enough the companies wouldn't need to hire outside the country...
Well documented like how vaccines cause autism?
