Chief
They have unlimited vacation so they can take off whenever they want
Unlimited vacation NEVER works for companies with Utilization requirements. Its total BS to clear out books.
Also requiring approval way in advance and limiting vacation is not unlimited vacation.
I dont mind this vacation being called anything else but unlimited - it is NOT.
I wouldn’t say 2 weeks for 2 days. But u def have to give good notice
Not only do you have to ask 2 weeks in advance but also have to get additional 2 approvals besides your engagement team. And this is why unlimited PTO is illusory, they can easily continue to deny your request or limit your amount of vacation day.
I can’t tell you. EY seems to love bureaucracy for bureaucracy sake. To clarify, you have to seek those additional approvals for anything over a week but still. These people have no insight into your engagements
In ITTS, we just received an email with these guidelines for requesting time off:
I can see this becoming a nightmare around Christmas time or any other holiday period. For y’all’s sake, I hope the approval process is quick. Would suck ⚽️ 🏀 waiting to see if you get approved.
I just tell my teams and no one says anything unless we have something urgent. I like the new PTO tbh. I usually take off fridays and put vacation hours.
My team is transitioning to 4-day work weeks during non-busy season or milestones
Honestly, at this point I’d definitely think twice before taking a job at EY
I have several friends at EY that are looking to get out over this policy. They clearly missed the boat trying to save a few bucks when people leave. It’s no wonder people are leaving when any perks (free meals, hotel points, skymiles, fairly flexible vacation days - at least for long weekends) are stripped from them. Couple these facts with crap raises/bonuses and the carrot doesn’t seem that appealing at the end of the day.
“Exit opps” can only make up for so much BS
I’m not in EY, but the way my firm (which also has unlimited PTO) schedules things is that jobs are scheduled up to 6 months in advance. Saying you want to take a vacation two weeks in advance would blow up the schedule and your request for a two day vacation would probably be denied. It took a fair amount of effort to get a 5 day vacation scheduled two months in advance and it wasn’t even busy season
Isn’t that typical? I usually ask a few weeks in advance, as a courtesy. And I’m not even in a client serving role.
Thank you folks. Helpful.
That’s true. Manager on my team asked me why I booked 2 days off, and saying “Is that real?”
