Need some advice here. I am a fullstack developer with 5 yoe in Angular and Python. My aim is to crack FAANG companies. Now I got an offer from HSBC in a credit risk model monitoring role using Python. It is close to a data engineer role.
My question is that will it be a good idea to shift from development role to a model monitoring role if I want to move to FAANG in the future?Or does FAANG not prefer people who are not in core development roles?Amazon Microsoft Google Adobe PwC EY Citi Barclays JPMorgan Chase

Always (politely) negotiate!
How are you?
At the very least, it’s good to ask if there’s any wiggle room. If they say no, you still have a really solid offer. But if you don’t ask, you might miss out on a bonus or extra perks. Either way, congrats on the offer!
There's no harm in trying to negotiate! Worse case scenario you end up with the offer you were going yo accept anyway. Best case scenario, you get more money.
Congrats! An offer above your expectations is huge! But even with that, it usually means you should at least try to ask for more. Unless they’ve already point-blank said we are at the absolute max of this offer! If not, be polite, professional, root your numbers in reality, and see what happens.
Did you research this company before hand. There is a big difference between a signing $5k bonus and a $5k salary bump. If you have the experience to merit the $5k bump, ask about it politely. Is their any commuting benefits. I asked for a bump to cover my transportation cost. I was commuting 3hrs rd trip.
I say ask for it. You never know what they will say if you don't ask. There is always the chance they will say no but I don't think it hurts to atleast ask.
There is always room for negotiations. I always negotiate and I get what I want or something more 90% of the time.
Ask for another $5k salary and mention your yearly bonus your losing and see if they will toss in another $2500-$5k. Can’t hurt to ask. By not pushing it too high they might just say yes. You can phrase it as “I was hoping to be at the X salary with this transition”.
Congratulations ... Accept the Offer

I think always negotiating a little is a good thing! Could get you 5-10k in flex which can be really nice

Always try to negotiate if you can. Only you can read the room and see about this. Always try to advocate for yourself!
You could always ask if there is a sign on bonus. If it's $10,000 more than you expected, take this as your sign-on bonus except instead of once, you'll get it every year. Take the job.
