Have a lot of experience in but have 2 years of experience in strategy and management consulting. When I did the first 2 rounds, they didn’t say my lack of experience with data was an issue and only gave positive feedback, specially that I have a background in engineering and would only need to refresh that piece. Also, the recruiting lead said they have an offshore team which does the data piece while the onshore team does the client management (which I’m capable of and would be part of my responsibility as a consultant but wouldn’t be part of the associate’s job responsibilities)
What should I do in the event that I get an offer at a lower level? Should I try to negotiate my way up or just speak about pay?

Sounds very Deloitte. If you don’t have to jump I wouldn’t settle unless it’s MBB

Someone asked a question to gauge your interest in the role and you ignored them? That's pretty weird of you tbh.
How was that to gauge my interest? If it was for that purpose, then tbh it’s not a company I want to work for. You don’t try to gauge interest by trying to see how candidates react when you try to low ball them
I’d say NO. Because there is always something where one lacks experience. It is data now, it will be something else next time. Excuses will never stop just to hold you back, pay you less, make you work cheaper. Unless you’re desperate, why would you take it? Keep searching till until you find the company that appreciates your experience as is and will help you fill the holes if any.
I would say get the offer and if it’s associate level, let the recruiter know that you are at the associate level and not willing to switch at the same level. Be assertive. I had the same issue and stood my ground. Joined at next level. Good Luck!
I think it would depend on the offer. On the one hand, jumping from analyst to consultant is a bit of a jump, but I don't like how they kind of sprung the associate thing on you last minute. You likely could really use the time in role to grow into a C, but their approach drive me the wrong way. If they come back with Associate and a low ball offer, I'd peace out.
You have pretty strong feelings about this, which is understandable. Why, then, the question here on fb? Thank them for their time and pull yourself from consideration.
I think you need to stack it against another offer imo….dm me if your interested in working at CFGI
