Do something that ends your workday each day. Do the dishes, go for a drive, go for a walk, etc. Do it consistently each work day. Find your “day over” activity.

Don’t sleep
Try to have a bedtime routine to shift away from work. Even if it’s 30 minutes before. No screen time. Wash up, brush your teeth, read a book or do a 10 min meditation.

Get out of public accounting
Things that have helped me:
1) Anti-anxiety meds.
2) Getting interested in a TV show and watching an episode before bed. Not anything that is mind-numbing but something that is thought-provoking or interesting to you. It gets my mind focused on something else right before bed which reduces me thinking about work. And honestly, getting 40 min less of sleep but having it be better sleep still puts me in a better position.
I had this happen back in frenetic summer jobs as a teen and college student not just in my accounting career. It's your internal subconscious I think. It typically means you are nearing or at mental exhaustion/burnout. If taking some down time is not an option (all too familiar with that reality) then mitigating it as much as possible will help. Find a mental focus shift activity that works for you. This could be exercise, reading a book, watching a bit of tv, etc. You want to proactively shift your focus from work before bed. I know that's easier said than done but try a few different activities to see what's work for you.
