I left consulting at PwC and work at a corporate strategy and business development team for a F100 big co (non tech space). I have been in this role 3 months as a manager, (total team size is around 15) and our group’s job is basically to interview, hire and manage consulting teams we hire to do all the projects running. For deal evaluation, to search and screen, transformation, tech, workforce and other strategy planning for markets, brands etc. AMA other than if we are hiring.

Sorta yeah. Like they do most of the work and analysis and slide making and excel etc.
What first impressions stand out for you for successful teams that come on? Like you look at a proposal/team and you think to yourself, yup, I bet these folks will do an awesome job.
Reputation matters a lot more here. So like we have McKinsey do strategy work and that’s just because it’s McKinsey and even if we do process to bring 3 firms, that idea is to give it to McKinsey but we need 3 firms for the process like for bids and vendor hiring process.

It’s fine. It’s a different skill to ask questions rather than do the analysis. Because whatever the analysis is, you can get it, you just have to ask the right questions and evaluate etc. you have to a lot more big picture to work with so many teams at all times. Like communications firm, strategy, tech, digital, graphics, lawyers, bankers etc. So a great 360 view

Inefficiency at its finest. I too left to industry but instead my teams sole job is to replace all the consultants we used to use. Within the last year I’ve sole sourced 2.8m of work that would’ve otherwise gone to consultants.
