i’m just gonna say it —
some of y’all truly need a reality check if you think layoffs aren’t already being triggered and will continue to cascade into 2023. please take a moment to see what your federal reserve is communicating, what they are actually doing, and understand they are purposefully and intentionally working to spark millions in layoffs as we speak across all industries and across all sectors. if you really believe what i just typed is fear mongering you’re either legitimately dumb or are proactively refusing to build an understanding of what is actually occurring in not just united states but global economics

haha damn. +1 my guy.
SC this post is SO entitled, it's bordering on incredulous that you don't realize how naive and Pollyanna it is. My company is in the process of laying off thousands of people, and people who've been with the firm (starting from very senior VPs) have been made to reinterview and/or let go. People have families, health issues, responsibilities. Maybe being a SC (according to your current title) means you are still young in your career that you can easily bounce back but the lack of awareness that this is not the case for everyone is astounding.
Claiming only "dispensable" are let go and get anxious abt this? No one is that special- you'll learn as you go through your career that all employees are dispensable
….you realize what you’re suggesting is insurance fraud right?
Hey Donald Trump; how is it going?

There’s some truth in this though I wouldn’t necessarily phrase it this way or say you have to choose between worrying about your personal or professional life. You can be concerned with both.
But, fearmongering and getting spun up about “oh my god, the layoffs are coming!” based on rumor, social media posts, and media is not productive. Not that it’s not worth being aware of, but obsessing over it won’t be helpful as you can only control your actions and reactions anyway.
So, if you’re performing well, adding value, and generally not being a waste of space, then your side of the street is clean and you’re doing everything you can to protect yourself if these rumors were to become fact. So go on about your day and keep crushing it.
Tbh, if you’re that overwhelmingly worried you’ll be first on the chopping block, I’d spend more time pondering why you think you’re so expendable and solving for it.
Yes exactly this!!
I can understand it to some degree. Lots of news articles and we are going to see the impact to professional services at some point.
However, I agree that there appear to be enough posts about it that folks posting about it do so with sufficient frequency that I can’t imagine they have much time to do their actual job, making them prime candidates for actual layoffs when the time comes… where’s the focus on “what can I do to become invaluable”?
Agree with this. They’re only laying off people who are dispensable and those are the people that get scared the most. Self fulfilling prophecies.
Silly goose, happiness doesn’t sell.
Exactly this. The news outlets wouldn’t get any attention without fear mongering
Consulting (good ones ) cuts people every year. Everyone knows about Amazon. While recession is very real, I would not want to confuse usual cutting with layoffs. Peloton laid off people, Shopify did the same, and there are many examples of where performance didn’t matter at all. The business or that org was bust.
So don’t get executed now. You will know when it actually comes

the problem is the #s are steathily higher and non transparent across companies as of current and c suite is very clearly rolling in standard annual fat trimming (regular cuts) with additional headcount reduction (stealth layoffs masked as regular cuts) they deem fit for our dog shit economy.
when things truly go completely south (it will) some of you people will feel very, very dumb.
take accenture for example. it’s very well known we normally fat trim after fiscal. the sheer amount of rumor milling and numbers that have ranged from standard to 2x is in of itself a problem. these type of whip lash reactions don’t happen on a regular year. that tells you accenture either is completely untransparent and our 600k employee count is caught off guard every single year (unlikely) or the rumors of a 2x performance mandate during june - august is true and this is abnormal. (“not layoffs” ontop if regular cuts).
i’ve been her long enough to know we do not have this type of panic every single year. that would reflect insanely poorly on leadership. you can already see the type of sentiment this has drawn — you really think this is a standard annual run of the mill annual cleaning? if it was it wouldn’t draw such scrutiny and violent reactions, with the real number of forced attritions being so vague.
you got into amazon let’s use that big brain of yours.
