Haha yeah 100% I have learned to adopt it too even though I think it's so much worse to put people off like this than just to deliver the bad news now. I feel like people use it as a way to stall the uncomfortable conversations
It feels like people are more afraid of being the bearer of bad news than they are of being honest. I would rather just know where I stand than be left hanging.
Yep, so true! We can touch base on this later. AKA I either don’t know the answer and have to find out, or it’s more work than I could even imagine starting right now.
“Touch base later” is usually my cue that the task is either going to be dumped on me later or vanish into the void. Either way, it is rarely a good sign.
I swear it can also mean 'i don't know and need to look it up but I do not wan to admit I don't know'
Office lingo is basically a language of strategic stalling!
