Yes, it’s partly the fallout from social media, where people carefully curate their “personae” to appear much more fabulous than they really are. Because people are pathetically insecure and the only way to make themselves feel better is to “win” a comparison of lifestyles (aka income).

Honestly, for me, I want to know what others are making at different age levels and levels of experience because there is a general lack of transparency into what people make at my company and in general and an anonymous space gives some people the room to open up about that kinda thing

The same reason why you see so many posts about compensation eval/comparison. It's human nature to benchmark against something. You always have to option to scroll by.
Some are just satire (or would better treated like so).

It’s basically the insufferable cycle of young overachievers that make up this form of social media. They go after the $ discussions to make themselves feel good/bad. It’s like nerds geeking out on how hard their classes are
It’s also a symptom of the consulting culture right? It did feel like my older peers (30+) didn’t really care as much though
