I met with 4 partners and it well well. Am I going to have to speak with 4 more people? I am getting very tired of speaking to so many people and repeating myself like a broken record!

As a lateral I interviewed with 6 people total, 4 partners and 2 very senior associates. If this is only your first round you probably have one more round of people.

6 total is the norm. Usually two partners for a screener and 4 partners for callback.

I met 10 people when I lateraled. It felt like overkill, but I wanted the job so I did it. (And I think it was part of the test.) Granted, I was quite senior—a seventh year—so that might have been part of it.

like

No, I lateraled as a rising 7th, met with 6 like mentioned. I’m sure depends on the firm / group size.

Additional Posts in Big Law

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.
