Raises are best negotiated by focusing on the impact that you are having in your role for the company as a whole. It sucks when you find out someone makes more than you, or that you're making less than market rates. But that's not the best approach to getting a raise. Focus instead of what you're doing right, how much impact you're having and what you're worth in this market
Can you expand on your response please? I have never had to ask for a raise.
The best way to get a raise is first of all make sure you're doing a good job. And when you ask for a raise, point out the value that you bring to the company. If you say you deserve a raise because someone else was paid some amount more than you, that will probably backfire. Talk about what you do, and what you can do, and emphasize that you've grown in the role and deserve a pay boost that reflects that.
If any part of your job involves typing or proofreading, you need to hone that skill before you ask for a raise. And what do you mean that you have become 'universal?'
