Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.
The weathers nice and my review que is low.

It kinda does a disservice to their own team members to inflate titles like that. Every year in agency life is like dog years - you learn SO much so every YOE counts
Just wondering, what agency?
It's a small-ish independent shop in a big market. Not a household name by any means. I work on a mix of large retainer-based and smaller project-based clients.
I completely agree – it is not commonplace here for that reason. 6+ years is the standard here for outside hires. But the unusual past couple of years led to some turnover, which gave me some very unique work and responsibilities given my experience. I toughed it out and was rewarded, but I knew this might be an issue as soon as I accepted my past couple promotions.
I had a similar trajectory and took an SAE gig on a client I really wanted to work on. I made it clear my expectation was to be an AS at that agency in a year. It built in another wage jump which worked in my favor. Wage is tied to YoE more than it is title if that is what you are looking at.
Word of advice from someone who had a similar trajectory: don’t be afraid of taking a half-step back when you make a jump to another agency. It has nothing to do with your abilities or your knowledge, but everything to do with your mental health.
Part of what you learn in those YoE is delegating, stress management, and balance. These things come with time, and while your current agency may have been happy to throw you in early, anyone looking to hire you now is probably concerned that you’re going to burnout sooner rather than later. So don’t be afraid to take the half step back, with the goal of stepping up again within a year or two.
I like this a lot, thank you. I do find myself lamenting the times largescale issues on my clients were above my pay grade lol
I have some internal performance-related awards I've earned listed on my resume. I have also thought about creating a document separate from my resume that summarizes projects I have worked on recently, complete with my responsibilities, accomplishments, and the end result. Is that odd? I feel like I need some kind of proof of my impact as it can be hard for recruiters to take my word for everything – I can't say I blame them.
I currently work at an agency where there is no SAE role, it jumps from AE to AS. Any advice on how to grow into AS responsibilities since the gap is so steep?
thank you!
Congrats on moving that fast! I'm at SAE four years in
