I would try to wrap up as much as possible, make lists and how-to docs for things I knew and others might not, and schedule one on ones with people I cared for.
All to make sure I left the place as best I could.
Coming from someone who left as an experienced manager and ultimately returned to the firm once I realized I missed working with the type of people EY has.
Save aggressively and cut expenses now so you're used to living on less when you pull the trigger.
Leaving with a job?
In the final months, I'd focus on reconnecting with those whom you've gotten along with and making sure you keep that network tight as you leave. You may have to come back or need a referral in the future so make sure you don't just disappear
Anyone know what kind of counter offer I might expect to get to stay? It’s Big 4 and I have been a top performer every year. I don’t think there’s really anything that would change my mind I’m just curious what to expect. After years of grind I don’t trust that I can ever have the WLB I want.
Not sure what firm you are but I attempted to leave during the pandemic when my firm was not giving raises for people that weren’t being promoted. They matched my salary and offered my a 2 year rotation in a group that provided much better WLB. I was able to use that time to talk with other professionals and moved into a practice that was as much better than the group I left.
