I plan to leave my firm after bonuses are paid later this year. I’m burnt out and my fiance is sick of me working so much. For anyone who has left their job at the manager level, what would you have done differently in your final months if you knew you were leaving?

I would try to wrap up as much as possible, make lists and how-to docs for things I knew and others might not, and schedule one on ones with people I cared for.

All to make sure I left the place as best I could.

Coming from someone who left as an experienced manager and ultimately returned to the firm once I realized I missed working with the type of people EY has.

Save aggressively and cut expenses now so you're used to living on less when you pull the trigger.

Leaving with a job?

In the final months, I'd focus on reconnecting with those whom you've gotten along with and making sure you keep that network tight as you leave. You may have to come back or need a referral in the future so make sure you don't just disappear

Anyone know what kind of counter offer I might expect to get to stay? It’s Big 4 and I have been a top performer every year. I don’t think there’s really anything that would change my mind I’m just curious what to expect. After years of grind I don’t trust that I can ever have the WLB I want.

Not sure what firm you are but I attempted to leave during the pandemic when my firm was not giving raises for people that weren’t being promoted. They matched my salary and offered my a 2 year rotation in a group that provided much better WLB. I was able to use that time to talk with other professionals and moved into a practice that was as much better than the group I left.

Hey mates, I have an overall experience of 14 years with 6lakh CTC. Started my career in BPO though I am from computer science background and then proved myself for the IT movement within the same company before 8 years (6 years in BPO and 8 years in IT). Nothing is changed financially but in a better role. Have got certified in GCP. I stayed here for too long because I was looking for an onshore opportunity but now luck is not favouring me in H1B lottery. Looking for your valuable suggestions!

People that have small children - how do you deal with your child’s stress and separation anxiety when you go to work? My 4-year old goes berserk almost every day at some point relating to me having to work. The worst part is that I’ve been working from home bc of Covid and I’m literally just walking upstairs after giving hugs and kisses and saying see you soon 800 times. My spouse is a stay at home parent, but that doesn’t seem to matter to my son. A piece of me dies everyday because of this.

I have an interview for an in house position (only attorney) at a small non-profit focused on conservation easements. I am a transactional associate at a mid sized law firm. The prospect of freedom from the billable hour and contributing to meaningful work are the draws. The cons are that while the salary at the non-profit would only be slightly less than what I am making now, pay increases and opportunities for advancement will be much less than where I am now. Thoughts on making the shift?

Any thoughts on Sidley's London office? How sharp elbowed are the associates and how much do partners genuinely try and help you develop a career? Bonus points if you can provide insight on how the corporate and finance departments work with specialists on transactional matters. As a final ask, are they genuinely into D&I and flexible working efforts or is this predominantly lip service? Thanks in advance!

Can anyone let me know how easy it is to apply to a consulting firm in Dubai directly coming from London? I am currently working at a T2 strategy firm in London and my partner and I want to relocate in ~1.5 years. My firm does not have an office in Dubai whilst my partners firm does. Is it possible to apply straight (rather than moving laterally in London, waiting a few years then transferring?) interested in MBB views too. (I would have roughly 2.5 YOE by then)
