Hello!
I finished my final round(s) for a TAM position at Google (GCP) last week and was told by my recruiter that my feedback was great and that I made a solid impression on the team and am "firmly in the running". I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.
Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.

The best time to look for a job is when you have one. This takes the stress and pressure off of the interview process which enables you to make a strategic move vs land a job.

Same, I basically sleepwalked my way into sap because I was more or less happy at my old job. Got the equivalent of a huge promotion plus an enormous raise.
I landed my position with Booz while I had a comfortable job at another company. It was the greatest interview I’ve ever had because it was zero pressure on me. It gives you a safety net to reach for jobs you wouldn’t have otherwise and ask for higher pay than you would if you had to land the job.
It doesn’t have to be difficult, you just have to set limits on time and don’t apply to too many at one time; and if someone demands a lot of your time let them know your limitations.
When you are not employed you can afford to apply to a lot. Not so otherwise. Too many applications means too much drain on current work.
My strategy is to apply to the ones I don't really care about that much first. Currently dealing with interview rust as I haven't interviewed in over 5 years.
But if I space out my applications like you suggested then I did not want to be in a position where I turn down an offer from a non-target company.
Same. But, for me, the hold back was lazy to try harder during the interview process. Spending time on 5-6 rounds for each position with 2-3 companies made me crazy
Same. I'd rather take 6 months off and devote the time to my job search.
I have too many meetings scheduled during the day and find it hard to dodge appointments. There's only so many dentist visits and Dr visits you can do in a year
I don't get how people can be happy at their job and looking, but that's just not how my brain works. When I decide there's something better I do want, I try and make it happen where I'm at-- but if everything is crap where I'm at, I'll start giving 80% so I can GTFO. 🤷🏻♀️ It's not the best way to handle it, but I'm thankful I've only been laid off once.
I consider it like knowing where the bus stops. You don’t need (or want) to get off at every stop but it’s valuable to know where the bus stops so you can more effectively plan you trip.
Knowing your actual market value (vs your perceived value) helps with confidence in your current role. It reduces your likelihood to diminish your contributions or allow others because you know where you stand. You don’t have to take every job or every interview and entertaining offers doesn’t mean you aren’t committed to your current role.

It is very difficult but you can do it. You can also take some leave to get the search up and running if you need to, then have it on auto pilot.
I'm overthinking this but I'm concerned my team will know..and they will start dis-engaging me from future work.
Last thing I want is to be on the bench with a LOW notice.
