I really struggle with highlighting and describing my work accomplishments - probably imposter syndrome. I am applying for an internal role and am trying to balance feeling like I am over exaggerating vs taking credit for my role in projects. Any advice?

I have the same problem. What worked for me is realizing that no one else is going to do this for you so you really do have to advocate for yourself! It may help to think about how you would recommend a colleague represent themselves. Sometimes it's easier if you aren't thinking about you.

That’s a really good point.

I like to look at the job description for the job I’m applying for and incorporate as many of those job requirements into my resume (only if it’s something I have done) also Indeed has some nice resume builder AI technology that is nice. I would strongly recommend no more than 3 pages two is ideal

There are 2 times to brag - job interview and performance evaluation. Include everything you have done. Even if it is your routine assigned responsibilities, etc. This is not exaggerating. This is pointing out all of the things you have done and stating it in the best professional light.....They expect you to do this, so don't feel shy about it. Take your credit!

Thank you! It can be surprisingly hard to do!

Something that help would be to sit down and think about your accomplishments at work, and consider how you would quantify them. If you can express what you've done using numbers, that will give you confidence. The numbers, of course, aren't exaggerating, they're just numbers. And it will make your case to whomever considers you.

True, it can be hard to know the numbers sometimes.

Have you tried using chat gpt? Summarize them and have them make it nicr

IMHO, everyone has "imposter syndrome" (in my day, we just called it being new/unfamiliar) when starting
new jobs.

I feel this is quite normal. Of course it depends on the company/mgr/co-workers around you.

Advise you take some time to review your job's accomplishments, list them, along with areas you
may need to improve.

1. Be Specific: Detail your contributions with clear examples.
2. Quantify: Use numbers to show impact if you can (e.g., "increased efficiency by 20%").
3. Use Action Words: Start sentences with strong verbs (e.g., "led," "implemented").
4. Stay Honest: Highlight your real contributions without downplaying them.
5. Seek Feedback: Ask colleagues or mentors to review your descriptions for balance. If someone knows you well or has worked on the same project with you then they would likely be able to highlight some stuff you missed!

I am the same way! My district manager came to me after I applied and interviewed twice for the same role and didn't get it and gave me the best peice of advice I've ever gotten: "Remember! It's a one hour commercial about you and how awesome YOU ARE! It's not about the team...it's all about you!!" He basically gave me permission to brag about myself, and I have tried to have that same approach every time I interview!

Generally curious how many companies offer phone reimbursement? My last gig did not but the current one does. Legally it seems, all employers are required to do so if we use our phone in literally any capacity (video call, slack, teams, emails etc). How prevalent is the issue of not reimbursing phone dues?

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!
