I received an offer from KPMG as an advisory associate (75k), and a second one from Grant Thornton as a transformation consultant (70k). Im leaning towards the KPMG position, however I’m wondering about salary negotiations; the Grant Thornton position is in a state where cost of living is 15% cheaper than that of KPMG, and I am also in the process of obtaining my MBA (one more semester left). Any way I can leverage/utilize this information to negotiate a higher salary with KPMG?

Job 1: 85k at small boutique firm (3 attorneys). Standard benefits but no 401k. Semi-annual raises. No billable hour requirement and regular 40 hour week. Being groomed to be a partner on a 2-3 year track.

Job 2: 135k at large regional firm (200 attorneys) good benefits. 1900 billable hours requirement. Partner track is 6-8 years but not guaranteed.

So $280K range all in starting. I’m currently making $250K in VC here in Bay Area. Job is in a MCOL T2 city (Boston/Dallas/Austin/Chicago) so I won’t be living in expensive Bay Area.
