I remember hearing someone say, “Don’t take work personally.”
But what if you do care? What if you put a little of yourself into every task?
How do you stay human in a place that tells you to detach?

This hits deep. Caring is what makes us human, but the trick is learning to care without carrying everything on your shoulders. I think it’s about setting emotional boundaries, not emotional walls. You can bring your best self to work without losing yourself in it.

like

It’s not that you shouldn’t care at all, it’s that you should care less. You should advocate for yourself and your ideas, and it’s good to be ambitious and take pride in your work. But the realities of corporate politics and resource constraints mean that things often won’t work as well as they could.

Most of these factors are beyond your control. Getting worked up about things you can’t change will make you depressed. All you can do is show up, do your best, and learn to live with the results. If this is a consistently difficult struggle then you should be looking for a new role.

It's frustrating sometimes when your efforts are blocked by office politics or bureaucratic hurdles,
Or organizations who put profit over humanity. Unfortunately the world is cruel. Find a system that works for you in maintaining a balance view and stay connected to your commitment.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever started a new job and thought what the hell am I getting myself into?!?
If it was the wrong fit how long did you grin and bear it? 6 months / 1 year / longer?
Did it get better with time or worse? (For instance just a case of lack of know-how)
If you left did you find securing a new job difficult due to only being there for so little time?

Good morning, hope everyone is having a great week! Does anyone have any advice on breaking into an analyst role? I am currently a Senior Customer Success Manager, with a background in Operations/Process and Project Management as well. I have always enjoyed the analysis pieces of my roles and would love to expand my skills to show how qualified for a position in data analytics. Thank you in advance for the help!

I have 5 YOE in Analytics... always thought I wanted to be a DS, but every job (even the junior ones) required experience in ML development. Though I am part of the ML project, I'm not the person develop the model. And I have a hard time when the interviewer ask about how I develop the model and what hyperparameters I tuned. I know the thought process and stuff but 'I' wasn't the one who did that part in the project. How to convince them that I could do the job without taking credit of others.

Senior to Manager-level Data Scientists, what is the minimum set of skills and experience you require someone to have in order to train them to be a Data Scientist?

I have a handful of people from BI and Marketing who want to learn how to be a "Data Scientist" where some of them have stronger SQL knowledge and ability than others, but some of them have more exposure to languages like Python and R, and a little bit of machine learning exposure.

Appreciate the input in advance.

Hi all,
I graduated during Covid with a double major in business administration and business management with a minor in marketing and magically ended up in sales because I needed a job. I’m about to take a data analytics course to make an attempt to break into that field. I’m currently looking for a mentor to help guide me during this time. Also, if anyone is willing to look over my resume and give me tips on how to make it more presentable for recruiters in DA that would be very helpful. Thanks

I’ve got about 20 years cross channel experience in marketing, split between big brands and startups, and I’m considering pivoting into a data science/data analyst role. I know it will initially be a step back in comp but is it at all realistic for a person with certificate level experience in data analysis but a decent marketing management background to expect $150-200k comp or is that mostly for degreed candidates (or not realistic at all)? Any guidance here is greatly appreciated.
