politely but firmly remind him it was approved months ago and you have plans so you are not canceling
Tell them it’s YOUR time off that YOU earned and he can kick rocks. Normalize not making your employees feel bad for using THEIR time. We’re way past the times of making our jobs our whole life and not catering to our own lives and families.
PTO means Prepare The Others
You’ve put it in. It’s been accepted. End of discussion.
Enjoy your vacation 😂
Oh I will have to use that one, Prepare the Others. This is exactly it - you earned it, was approved for it, you take it. 5 days is nothin. My husband just had an employee come back from a 3 week family vacation, and there was no hesitation in it being approved.
I don't think they can legally do that can they? That's your PTO that you earned, and especially if they've already approved it, they can't back track after the fact... I'd be polite but firm and tell them that if there was a concern, they should have brought it up before approving it two months ago.
PTO is part of your benefits package. If they approved you taking the leave, you are not obligated to change any plans ( even if they are just to sleep in for the week)
For us, because we're responsible to sell a certain number of products (policies) per month and our team a certain amount per month, if we take PTO, we're still required or expected to me those numbers. How many products do you sell normally in a week to reach your expected sales quota? You now need to squeeze that into the remaining weeks. I requested two days off and was asked to take those days but come in on what would be my normal days off because as a top producer, my team needs my numbers.
That's the work environment we've entered. I was also told to save the pto because if we don't meet our expected numbers, when it comes to the annual review, we could be demoted and a reduction in pay would apply. Most won't stay for that and would quit and need that pto money to help financially till they find employment
