I run into a lot of Feds and I always hear: I'm here cuz of the pension, benefits and I don't have to work that hard because it's almost impossible to be fired. This really irks me

I worked in govt consulting for six years - those feds hate their lives and have nowhere near the income potential that we have in our industry.

Why does it irk you? That’s like being on varsity and getting upset that the JV lost a game?

There are some who drive the car and some just in it for the ride. Thank God that you are motivated to be a driver... it’s much more fun

So what. Nothing in life is free. Anyone of us could go play JV. I like playing under the lights and I get compensated to do that.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

Cash bonuses, raises, profit-sharing, company equity, 401k match, etc.

Had a baby recently with some health issues which has prompted me to reevaluate my big firm associate life and consider in house. I don’t want to burn bridges but also don’t think they are entitled to know everything about me.
