Do you ever feel you can’t tell your former colleagues how well you are doing? I worked at ML & now indep. Talking to friend at 8am, I’m at store picking up milk, etc. Friend asks, are you at store?

I came over from education so I get those questions from former colleagues all the time. I don’t disclose much. I want them to see I’m successful, many of them are clients, but I’m afraid they might be a little jealous, envious, or even resentful if they knew what I was making now. I agree with president 1, I never discuss my financial situation unless someone is thinking about making the same move I did. And then I only project what they might be able to do in the first couple years. Just honest advice

I say we are doing great .... family is healthy and happy and leave it at that .... my bottom line is personal

Me, yes but on my way to work. I can leave milk in fridge. Sigh...no I was working from home. What most friends do see is, I’m up at 5am, working, I network all the time, this includes weekends, etc. I have paid my dues. Yes, your bank job is cozy but clients don’t come to me I have to look for them. No 401k or health ins, I pay my own.

I’ve noticed I tell them less and less. I ask questions about their families, antidotes on kids, hubby but not much.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?

My boss (atty) is so disorganized! I’ve been with him 6 months and he’s having a hard time delegating, sharing info and managing deadlines. I’ve organized the caseload to manage the deadlines. He says he wants me to help with discovery but when I offer to start on one, he says he needs to do it. (Since he might have to present as evidence) When I give him deadlines and ask for the docs he says he’ll get to it. It’s a small 1 man firm, and I’m the first assistant besides his wife. Any advice?

Anyone have experience with cold emailing CDs looking for freelance? My network hasn’t been coming through lately. Is it an annoyance, or could it be worthwhile?

I have a CD that gets extremely flustered when you ask them for their opinion on a solution. For example after showing them multiple color pallets and CD not quite liking any of them (real Goldie locks moment) i suggested why not we do (fill in three colors here), the CD freezes up and gets annoyed because they don’t want to say yes or no without seeing it in front of them. Working on tight turn arounds and a cd who is too busy for meetings it proving tough with remote working. Any tips?

Am I particularly uptight, or is writing meant to be done alone, without a partner talking to you? With past partners, we chat through script notes and then I go off to execute. Current partner likes to sit and chat as I write. To me, writing is crafting a conversation. So I can’t talk to you and simultaneously talk to this audience. Of course I can just say “I’m gonna go write.” But since we’re both CD level, I’m like…is this his first rodeo? Maybe other writers are different though.

What would you wear to an industry networking event on the beach? It advertises “this beach front celebration is shore casual” dress code and says “flip flops and shorts are in, ties and heels are out.” How would you strike a balance between over and under dressed?

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?
