I saw someone mention the "what about me" factor which I never really considered. Assuming the idea is that when people read about protecting another group they feel left out. Now, I would automatically think this is a problem with that person, but I do realize it's also just human nature. What's a way you've been able to address that or think about that?

One way I address this is to ensure my suite of programs is inclusive. I run programs that seek to benefit a specific group in my org but that's not my entire portfolio. I also run employee recognition programs, workshops and mentoring programs that benefit all employees. In every program I specifically call out who the target audience is so that allies and majority groups know they are welcome to join.

It's not perfect but it's been a way that I try to thread the needle

I’m currently a Grade 11 at Cisco. With the recent pay structure changes my annual comp will be $150k + 12% bonus. I live in a large metro area in the middle of the US. I’m looking to move around the company so that I can make commission but I don’t want to be an account manager. Have an interesting scenario. Holiday party season is approaching. At one of our parties (during working hours) there is an optional “talent show.” Employees can win door prizes. We have an entry that is a religious song - like one you would sing in church. I assume we need to let this employee perform this - or we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Likewise, if we permit this song, I assume we cannot compel attendance to the talent show. The talent show is part of a lunch thing.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I find myself in workshops and meetings, groups of 15-20 people, and I’m always the only woman. In my entire department, there are no other women.
