Hi, it’s me. And absolutely. We have tried to work through the multiple problems, but how do you help someone who threatens me, blows off meetings because “they don’t think they’ll get anything out of it.” Or curses at other employees, consistently misses generous deadlines, and other things I cannot say on this board. I feel for them. The position has evolved and they’re no longer a good fit, and super frustrated, but instead of evolving with the position they dig their heals in and make life hell for everyone. I’ve tried talking, offering outside mentorship programs (blown off), professional development (blown off)… what do I do?? It would honestly be easier to help them, than fire them but I just don’t know what to do anymore.

What you say is true. If you have ever been in a position of being nitpicked to death then you know what I mean. The manager may be the problem. Many people are in management and are not suited for the position at all. They have already been promoted to their level of incompetence.
