I signed a job contract three months a go as a W-2 employee and was just before my start date the company decided to make me a 1099 emplyee instead. Is this legal? They sent me a new 1099 contract, I did not sign. I was upset because i have been waiting for 3 months to start and declined other positions because I was anticipating I would be working soon with this company. Now I am having to look for another job and am in a very difficult financial position.

I don’t know if it is legal but it’s definitely sketchy. Were you supposed to have benefits and everything with the W2 contract? Were you able to speak with anyone there?

Three months sounds like a very long time to wait to start too. It sounds like a frustrating situation, but if you wait longer to try to figure this out, it will drag out the time before you can start working even further. Good luck!
