I started a new job about 6 months ago and when I was interviewing I was told the role is fully remote, other than occasional team meetings and client travel. We just got an email that we’re expected to come into the office twice a week on weeks we’re not traveling for client work. Are other firms doing this? I have a pretty long commute into the office and honestly probably wouldn’t have picked this office if they had said this back when I was interviewing.

I would just talk to them about it. Sometimes these blanket requirements come out and they don't think.

like

Right, it's probably a company wide boilerplate.

Time to find a new job

like

Seems like a new requirement if you just got the email but maybe they would make an exception given you started when they were remote

like

For us it is still client specific. I’d see about switching projects before changing firms.

This is one of those things that can be frustrating. If in hiring they new you were far from the office, and that the agreement was 'fully remote' not just due to covid, then I think it is fair to flag this for them. It's possible HR or someone sending these emails doesn't know your circumstance, and this is a boilerplate email to all people. If they can't agree to the original remote status, and it's not possible for you to come in, then that's a fair reason to look for another job if you are able. That's a material change in the nature of the position.

I joined a new consulting firm and have been here for 6 months. Recently, a SaaS client (1k employees) that hired my old consulting firm reached out to me about a job opening - Lead BA working primarily to implement their benefit admin system for insurance companies. My current TC is 95k. Is it worth making the jump if the offer is north of 110k? Anything I should look out for? The client and coworkers were all nice, but I remember being stressed on the project due to limited resources.

I have never done freelance work and was given the opportunity to take part in a cool project. My problem is it’s a proactive case by a brand new agency and it’s their own project, meaning there’s no client who pays for the work. For them it’s PR for their new business, but I think they’re expecting me to work completely pro bono. It does have potential for a great case and I’d love to have it in my portfolio, but is it reasonable for them not to compensate me? Any tips on how to approach this?

Hi. I was recently offered two jobs within the company. I had to turn down the first offer. I feel really awful about it. I really liked that team and the hiring manager.
