I am glad I got my M.Ed. In school counseling. However, it gives me minor tangible opportunities beyond my classroom. For the most part, rewards have come from adding tools to my teaching toolbox. I’m a much better teacher since earning my degree. That being said, I have been out of the classroom a couple of times in that role. I now teach psychology (AP & OL). My school is thinking of looking into dual credit since I do have a masters in that subject, recognized by APA as such. So, it has brought me job security. I guess that is the best advantage in terms of job opportunities that I can think of.
Mine is in school counseling. It was a hard choice for me. My strength was curriculum writing but as a teacher I felt I needed to gain some skills around mental health. I honestly prefer the classroom. I’ve been in an office a few times. I find it very draining. So, I’m back in the classroom the pay difference for me wasn’t worth it.
Curr/Instr would have been a natural fit for me and there are benefits such as being an instructional leader or specialist if you want to move into other educational options.

I got my Masters in my Subject Area, since my Bachelors was in Education.
If you’re a newer teacher, a Masters in Education could help in your development, give you a more solid foundation to work upon.
I am now looking at adding an associates in internet security. I think I need to have a backup just in case tax revenues get hit harder. I need to be able to work in a field that will pay similar to my current level.
I have two graduate degrees and I have felt like they have been beneficial. I was in a financial place where they didn’t put me into debt though, and I may have viewed it differently if debt were part of the experience.
I like having the graduate degree(s) because you can potentially teach at the college level, I’m only a second year teacher and have discussed with my alma mater doing night classes next year for extra money. It can also provide you some wiggle room if you do choose to leave the classroom by giving you an edge for district level jobs (ex. CTE director or something similar). It is also a type of expertise you can call on - experience is great of course, but coursework matters as well. For example, one of my degrees is in Learning and Technology so I am usually the one others turn to for help with implementing technology into their lessons. And honestly the biggest thing for me is personal enrichment. I enjoy school and learning more ways of improving my craft, no matter what aspect it is. So if you personally think it will be something you value, then absolutely go for it.
Remember is not just the small pay increase but remember to try to be trying to work towards something that will help the field of education
