Sounds like my experience with fibromyalgia, gabapentin really helped with this.
Also sounds like the times I got tennis elbow. Also sounds like arthritis.
See a doctor.
Get some rest
- has been going on for years and I initially attributed it to poor posture;
- certain things make it worse: texting, driving, working on a laptop, chairs with no elbow support, trying to sleep on my side, trying to do forearm exercises, generally doing anything with my fingers for a period of time
- Went to a neurologist and no nerve issues, no nerve damage (did nerve and muscle study or whatever they’re called)
- went to two orthopedists and they confirmed it’s not carpal tunnel or cubital tunnel, best guess is it’s muscle inflammatory-related. Don’t think it’s related to posture
- got spine MRI done to see if nerves were being pinched - they’re not
- got an echocardiogram and heart function is fine, General blood tests are all fine
- going to go get set of MRIs for front shoulders to see if nerves or blood vessels are being pinched there
- got recommended for a rheumatologist but docs are running out of ideas and the last orthopedic surgeon was like ‘I do believe you... but how serious is this?’ - it literally keeps me up at night sometimes and it bothers me most days...
- anti-inflammatory drugs don’t really help
- stretching and massages helped briefly but not anymore
Sounds awful
Have you been screened for cancer? My aunt had unexplained arm pain like you are talking about and it was very hard to find cancer developing...
Go to doctor! We can give our thoughts but nobody on here is qualified to diagnose you, you need an exam from an MD
Tension and muscle related. The nerves run through some narrow areas. Rest and relaxation are best or minimize usage. Once the area is inflamed it’s much harder to get it to calm down. You may need to see an ortho for cortisone to help calm things down. But you will need to find a way to address the tension on a regular basis.
Thanks! Like I mentioned - I went to 2 orthopedists and they couldn’t figure it out. Unfortunately, although ‘rest and relaxation does work,’ it is more of a ‘don’t be on your phone/don’t be on places/don’t drive/don’t work on a laptop’ type of rest, and even with 1-2 week holidays where I don’t do most of these, it still comes back immediately after.
D3: what type of cancer was it, do you know?
ACN1: that’s actually a good point, I can ask about cortisone and in general try sport medicine approach (like ice/heat) to see if it works
Even though this says it’s for shoulder pain, its helped me with lateral nerve pain in my left arm. The protocol is basically to hang every day

Cortisone is a temporary and I think they won’t do more than 2-3 a year before they consider surgery. I should have said tension and muscle related as a guess... not statement.
I get trigger finger in my one hand and it’s typically due to overuse. Sometimes it goes away on its own but other times its massage or cortisone.
Maybe focus on the movements that trigger the pain so you know which movements they are and try to minimize that or go wireless as much as possible.
Good luck!
I am the same way. I highly recommend a massager called refra, get the size for face and use it to massage your arm. I tried everything on the market and this is the only thing that helped. It is painful (the good type of pain) when you first start but I feel immediately better right after. That’s my personal take though, please see a doctor.

Follow up for anyone who cares: went to neurologist, orthopedic surgeon, and a vascular surgeon, and after nerve studies, blood tests, and MRIs, they determined it is Thoracic Outlet Syndrome where nerves are being pinched between my neck and shoulder, causing arm pain.
There is PT I can try that I started and it’s directionally working, otherwise may need surgery later on.
Lmk if any of you need more details.
