Controllerships and technical accounting positions are what come to mind for your level. Unless you are trying to switch out of accounting which at this point, that might be a harder switch.
Can you just try working less and not doing so formally. How about try caring less? Maybe even start saying no in tactful ways
You see, 90% of the partners will tell you you’re on the partner track to suck you in especially when you’re at manager level since the attrition rate is so high. Not doubting that you’re a low performer, just what I’ve been hearing.

I think you should job search. It might be harder to find something good in this market but I have been looking and I think there is still some demand out there. The big 4 does not reward loyalty. Worse case you keep a good relationship and you come back to big 4 just another firm or another city?
Ever thought about going on a flex for some time to cut hours? Might be beneficial if ur feeling overworked.
To clarify I’m a second year Manager working in financial services. Have experience on public and large private jobs.
Consider moving internal within your firm. Recently made a move as a manager and the work life balance is a step up for sure, closer to industry. Advancement is definitely going to be slower, but there are definitely the PM type roles you describe.
I handle product management. Any system developed internally that the firms use has a team deciding what features are needed. I spend most of my day working with our developers to coordinate the needs of the business.
Yeah as an M2 you are no where near partner track. Not saying you won’t ever be on it but it’s bs to think you are now.
What level you leaving as?
