Becoming a subject matter expert consultant might be a possibility, depending on your interests. That could give you a lot of autonomy, with the downside being that it might not always be steady. However, you can set your own rates if you become known for speed and precision.
If you love stability, commenting from the perspective of an independent SME consultant, in many cases this option wouldn’t be for you. You can work as an SME consultant and often achieve a greater measure of stability by working for a consulting firm rather than as an independent consultant. You often have to trade money / income for stability, but that’s not a bad way to go if you can maintain your cash flows.
Larger companies often have a separate career track for individual contributors, but often it is only for relatively senior staff or people who have been with a firm for a while. Consider speaking with your HR rep to see if there are additional options.
