Does your work demonstrate that level? Were you able to manage and oversee teams and projects? No one should say anything but you. If you feel ready and prepared l, go ahead and sell yourself as a CD when applying or talking to recruiters or potential hire managers. Good luck.
You’re going to struggle to get a cd job with zero team management experience. You should try to get another ACD job at a bigger agency where you’re doing the actual job of an ACD otherwise you’ll likely be way out of your depth if you do get hired as a CD.
Start updating your portfolio to make it clear that you check the boxes of a CD. For example, for my role on projects, I note when I CD’d. I also updated my bio to mention my management experience, my feelings on mentorship, and new business wins.
It was advice given to me by a recruiter, and it helped me land a CD role. Hope it can help you.

Mostly managed freelancers when needed.
Gotta get promoted to CD. If your current place loves you, ask to be promoted. Talk about other offers with the potential for CD roles, and hope they promote you in fear of you leaving

honestly there are other reasons I want to leave so I’m not keen to get promoted here.
Was recently laid off at the ACD level w/the same situation as you (no true management experience). I started out applying to ACD and CD jobs, and I will tell you: it is impossible to get hired above or even at the level you're currently at in this market. It's been almost six months and I'm not applying mostly for copywriter and senior copywriter roles. If you currently have a job right now, stay where you're at and ride this time out. It's effing brutal out here.

thanks for the insight. seems like it’s rough out there. I definitely don’t like my chances.
