In a down economy, this is the perfect time to retool build those extra extra skills and invest in yourself. Yeah it really sucks right now. A lot of people underpaid but I tell you when you call me starts turning around those employers are gonna suffer. They’ll be mass exodus. And you as a career professional can start thinking about switching to job roles with higher pay scales.
I think it is a normal across tech companies these days, unfortunately
Totally hear you. It’s such a weird mental space—being grateful for stability while also feeling disappointed or stagnant. You’re not alone in noticing how promotions and raises have slowed across tech. It might not ease the frustration, but this is a cycle we’ve seen before: belt-tightening now often opens the door to new growth later. In the meantime, I’d say keep tracking your wins and contributions. Sometimes when promotions aren’t available, negotiating a title change, cross-functional exposure, or high-impact projects can help you stay on a growth track.
One comment that is meant to be encouraging / stimulating: be that person who gets externally hired to a better role! Don't just wait for it to come to you, be that person! I know it is hard, but waiting for others to come to you makes it even harder! Hope you find your opportunity :)
