I was excited about TAS but Quickly I learned that some of the practices do not align with my own values and that it is all about sacrificing oneself for sometimes pretty much unrealistic expectations. Do you know anyone that might have pivot to something totally different?

I’m in a similar boat rn thinking about what might make me happier and give me a greater sense of purpose

like

It is quite scary to be honest. I am also seeking for some kind of purpose/balance

like

This is the million dollar question! Balance and purpose vs compensation.

I’ve had friends shift to corporate finance at corporations with a mission they align to, but no one will be able to tell you what is ultimately right for you. Once you have some sort of idea of the opportunity you’re looking for, get on projects (1) in that industry and (2) marketable skillsets (e.g., data analytics, growth strategy, specific services like diligence, etc.)

Best of luck!

I thought about the Consultant 1’s idea of doing something more forensic focused but quickly realized I hate accounting. And the burn out of doing accounting drove me out of it. After 2 years of audit and almost 4 years in diligence, I have finally quit (tomorrow is my last day) to take a significant pay cut to do corporate FP&A for a well known real estate company with lots of potential for flexibility and work life balance. I don’t care about the money as long as I am not struggling. I care about purpose and I care about time. With getting my 5-11PM and weekends back, I will have time to plan my long term goals. I want to be my own boss. I can start with side hustles or perform services in my spare time.

You don’t need to know what’s next, you’re extremely busy in TAS and I get it. But you can always get time back, and that’s what I’m doing

like

People crap on internal audit but if you get into an operational role where you’ll be doing operational audits or forensic accounting engagements, it can actually get pretty interesting learning about the business at a large enterprise. Lots of large companies use their IA teams as feeders to other roles in tue company so you never feel like you’re stuck doing the same 3 analysis over and over again like you do in FDD. This is the move I made from TAS and I’m happy with all I’m learning, just wish I’d get to do more modeling.

Hi Fieshes, i don’t want to leave development but the job roles I’m getting now after i resigned are the business analyst roles and not the data science ones as i thought of them to be. . So will i be able to get to data science after these business analyst roles. Does business analytics include the data science and development. Or should i look for better opportunities.

Advice on applying to PM jobs with 1yr APM experience?

I’ve been working as an APM at my current company for 1yr, and have basically been doing the work of a full blown PM the entire time. I’ve lead several features from start to finish and made sure to mention in my resume that I have been doing everything a regular PM does. Has anyone ever hired an APM for a PM role or done it yourself? Any tips? Advice?

Anyone do any PM mentorship on the side? I've had some people reach out to me on LinkedIn asking for free guidance on interviewing, starting out in a job, moving up, etc. I've met with a few people more than once for an hour or so at a time...wondering how big the market is for doing this kind of thing with recent college grads? I don't mind doing it for free, tbh it helps me more than it may help them. Does anyone charge for this and promote themselves?

A friend is considering deferring an offer (stem PhD) for 1 year straight out of undergrad to work in NY, either in a research institution or a biotech. She does not have any real work experience outside of her lab (3 years) and an adjacent internship. Another factor is she is just generally feeling burnt out on school after the last few years.
To what extent did you find that a year or two of work impacts prospects coming out of PhD? How might a year off from school impact her PhD work itself?

Additional Posts in Advisory in Accounting

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. Spoke to a lot of others who have left and seems like being pigeonholed or staffed on projects not related to the actual core work of the practice is the common reason. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...
