If things work well, a team effort makes everyone's work better. And more readable. I've had copy editors who I have appreciated over the years. And when I worked for a magazine, there were two fact checkers who kept me from embarrassing myself. One of the tragedies of the venture capital destruction of journalism has been the loss of those sorts of jobs, the people who didn't get a lot of praise but kept everything operating at a high level.
Totally agree. The quiet backbone of good publishing is often invisible. I’ve been saved more than once by an eagle-eyed editor or fact checker. It’s heartbreaking how many of those roles have vanished in the rush for “lean” operations.
Every marketing company I work for has an 18 year old trainee or entry level worker who knows more about the tech than people who have been working on it for years!
I’ve seen interns troubleshoot tools seasoned staff still struggle with. It’s a great reminder that fresh eyes and curiosity can be just as valuable as experience—especially in tech-heavy workflows.
Love this. I've got a teammate who always spots the small things before they become big things. Never loud about it, just quietly saving the day. Definitely owe them more than one thank you.
