Sorry to hear this.
You don't have to tell future employers the real reason you're leaving and no this won't come out during a reference check. In my experience, I've never sent a pay cheque as proof of employment.. they simply contact your company's HR department to verify.
I don't have experience with harassment cases but if you feel strongly I wouldn't hesitate to move forward with it. Most companies have anti retaliation policies to protect you. There are too many POS managers that get away with it because people are afraid of action.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I strongly suggest you look for another position before going back and use the max. leave time you can.
I had a similar experience. I reported discrimination through the proper process including telling my boss they were inappropriate and reported it in writing to HR. Nothing happened so I escalated it further and shocker 🙄 my “allegations” were proven true. Anti-retaliation documents were signed (it’s illegal).
I went on leave after the investigation and went back to a different team with an amazing boss. If you go back to work with the same team I recommend recording conversations with your boss when working from home. This is not illegal in Ontario (look up one party consent) however you must be talking too. This can be used as evidence if you choose to pursue it legally and if the company does not have a policy of prohibiting recording, but if you take this route I would make sure you follow company discrimination reporting protocol to the letter. Also study the Human Rights Code for Ontario to have general understanding of the law and your rights.
Either way I would get out! You do not have to disclose why you’re leaving. Get clear on what you want and need so you minimize the chance of ending up in the same situation. It took me a long time to realize how toxic that company was. When you’re in survival it’s hard to see the truth b/c not seeing it is what keeps you alive (not safe). The first hard truth I had to confront was no one is going to save you. I had amazing support (loved ones and professional help).
I don’t know where you’re at in your healing journey with all of this but I hope you have enough energy to empower yourself to move forward from this blesson (yes, this lesson will be a blessing someday).
Take care of yourself ❤️.
Isn’t asking for a paycheck like asking your current salary? It’s illegal/prohibited to ask that
