I went through several long interview rounds for an in-house role, and near the end of the process I was given a fairly extensive writing assignment that felt surprisingly complicated and time-consuming. I know company wants to assess issues spotting and writing skills. But I am curious about it now, is it normal to have complicated and excessive take home assignments?

Yes. My company also does this. Easy to write the right resume and memorize talking points. Can’t fake an in-person written assessment.

hard pass, no free legal work. stick ur contract into chatgpt and finetune. most in house lawyers will be leveraging ai anyway

OP your instinct is correct, they don’t and if they make you do it, its to harvest free legal advice. there’s no other decent reason. you can literally ask weave in technical questions in the interview without having to do a live legal review. we dont even do live legal reviews in negotiations either

No thanks.

Source: was in house for years.

For those of us that are still employed but looking, how do you juggle the assignment given by a potential employer with your current work responsibilities? Where is the time?

Good to know

I’ve worked on in-house roles where they do this. They usually allow you to do it over the weekend.

Haha 🤣

I really want to get a second job but I am scared of losing my current one. Both companies are in same field, although not direct competitors so I know it’s technically “not allowed” however, this is the only way for me to get that $$ since I am not paid all that well.

Of course I won’t tell a single friend/coworker. Only my partner. And I don’t post work stuff on social media.

I interviewed at a law firm and had my final round last Friday. The Tuesday afterward, I got a call from the recruiter saying the firm won’t have a decision for another week. I believe they’re interviewing other candidates. Does that make me second or third choice? And does the fact that I’m working with a recruiter hurt my chances of being selected due to the commission? Should I hold out for the offer or is 1+ week a sign that I won’t be selected?
