California’s tip laws are strict, managers can’t usually take tips unless they’re doing the same work as tipped employees and not supervising. You’re in a gray zone here. So, you are the manager, correct? So, it's probably against the law to take tips.
Per federal law (no clue about California's laws) if you don't at least have a say in the hiring and firing of staff members you cannot be you cannot be a salaried employee exempt from over time, amongst other qualifiers. If you're working more that 40 hours a week you need to contact whatever organization in California handles employment legalities as is your protected right to do so and the company you work for cannot retaliate against you for it, per anti retaliation laws.
I am looking for a part-time job anyone hiring here
Lol forget tips you are entitled to over time
What restaurant group do you work for?
Privately owned, local, 4 locations, fast paced… not one of those big corporate restaurants
It sounds like they have found a way to pay you way lower than you deserve. I would think you qualify for tips but I don't know the laws there. Either way it sounds like you aren't making what you should be.
Yeah I don’t know the CA laws but where I am, if you’re a manager, you’re not allowed to take tips… I agree the laws kind of need to change to be more flexible in this day and age.
