Half of your total comp is likely to come from cash bonuses and stock grants. (Very different from agency holding company compensation packages, where basic salary is everything and bonuses and grants are designed to be unattainable.) You should expect a total package in the high 200s. Focus on the total, not the base salary.
Yeah but the equity doesn't pay my $4000 SF rent 😂
Brand Manager = $125k-$160k in base for client side roles. The fact that it is global might mean a bit more but not much. There will be significant annual bonus, too.
$350-400K, you’re nuts. Just b/c the job description says 7+ years doesn’t mean you are over qualified. It’s not the agency world, leveling is different then titles from agencies. I guarantee you no Group Director has only 12 years of experience in Bay Area Tech. If you’re about the money, stay where you are, it’s going to be hard to beat that.
Nah.
Also, they’ve been having massive quarterly layoffs and losing their core talent. You sure you wanna go?
OP, this is important to ask in your interviews to clarify what's going on at the company before you negotiate numbers. You should be asking things like is your role a replacement for someone and if so, why did the last person leave, etc. Grass is not always greener on the other side.
Can’t speak to Uber, specifically, or how realistic a payout is but generally client side brand management roles at the manager level pay 10-20% bonus (lower end for CPG, higher end tech). The tech companies sometimes pay out stock incentives. You won’t likely get more than $15k sign on but might be able to negotiate (unless relo and that’s another story). I don’t believe you will come anywhere near the comp you are suggesting. That said, I hope you get what you want!
Honestly I think your expectations are too high at 350-400. Apple, Google and FB are printing money right now, but Uber isn't there yet. High 200s package is still good, and there is upside in Uber's stock price as the economy reopens and the delivery business grows.
Less
Probably not more. You’re a GSD, which is close to the top. New job is one of many global managers of something or other.
Guys, what ignificant bonus? When was the last time you’ve been in an uber?
Yeah, mildly concerned about their volatility in a COVID world, but being at a holding company agency that's on a reduced work week and had to furlough employees isn't exactly sitting on a pile of job security either.
Am hoping to more permanently make the switch to brand side, so any time here would theoretically help.
In a similar boat. Same salary range at an agency. Now deciding between one of the big tech 3 in a contract role for half a year (no guarantee to be hired long term) or join a well funded startup in the early stage permanently to build a team. Really difficult decision rn.
Uber and brand has been a dissuader over the years, I wouldn’t go near it. Plus it would (or rather should) be a step down from where you are.
DM me if you need some advice/ranges.
Because I need to know the exact level of the role. In tech every level is quite different. Very different than agencies.
