I work for a very small firm that doesn’t have a CRM or any other case management software. I’ve been using spreadsheets to keep track of everything. Are there any “free” or inexpensive legal softwares out there? My only experience in the legal industry has been with a larger firm, who had all the expensive softwares, and now a small firm so I am not aware of what else is available. Spreadsheets are great but not the most efficient when dealing with different law practices (family law, PI, WCC).

I used MyCase at the last firm I worked for. When I started my business I couldn't really afford it so I'm the beginning I used Monday to track everything and I think there was a free version but I paid like $12 a month. My only issue was that it didn't integrate well with my Google calendar. I'm using MyCase now for my business. I think they have lowest tier which is about $40 per month per user. FYI. Maybe discuss it with your attorney?

Thanks! I have discussed with the attorney. I should have said that in the original post, but there’s a character limit. Trying to help them out by finding out what is out there and bringing those options to them.

Look into Microsoft tools, especially Power Automate and SharePoint. Power Automate has a lot of templates that are easy to use and can automate a lot of tasks and notifications to create a CRM. I'm an in-house paralegal and was able to replace expensive contract management system using SharePoint for storage, Adobe for routing signatures, and Power Automate for workflows.

Monday ia not a legal software but it's project management and last ib recall, completely customizable.

I’m currently at a large firm that doesn’t use any CRM or case management software. I can only imagine the frustration.

Look for software marketed to solo practicioners - it's not a huge market, but there's enough solos/smaller firms that it does exist.

I’m in a tough spot—still waiting for conflicts to clear and out of the blue, a partner reached out regarding a project that they’ve staffed me on. They want my availability to begin working on the matter next week…how do I handle this? I haven’t given notice, but expect to do so soon…I don’t think it’s prudent to start a new matter esp. since I know I’m leaving…but I can’t turn down work with a straight face (especially because my hours are in “checked out” mode)…

Did anyone else adopt the new Florida Wonders curriculum? We just adopted it this school year, and I teach 4th grade. My team and I have not found a good flow, schedule, or whatever you want to call it. We feel like it teaches too many skills in one lesson, and we are not able to truly teach anything “deep” enough for students to master. Does anyone have any insight? What do you do? Do you like the curriculum? Why or why not? Would you be willing to share what you do weekly/daily? Thanks!

Former account person turned producer here. I’ve worked at a handful of agencies over the years, with some really wonderful teammates. My current shop has such kind & creative folks, but the AM department is a bit of a hot mess. They seem to struggle with the basics of their jobs, all the way to the top of the department. They don’t know what they don’t know and don’t care to learn. We can help educate them on process until the cows come home, but we can’t teach them how to do their job …cont’d

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.

So I’ve been with a court for a while and honestly the pay sucks compared to what paralegals should be making… the benefits are great though and they match my retirement 100% now that I’m vested at 3 years.I have 4 kids and 1 is getting ready for college. I feel like the benefits are great but I’d rather make more now. I am a previous LEO for 4 years who switched to paralegal so I have my leo retirement. Paralegals here make $28 with no benefits what is a good compromise
