The job market right now in all sectors is pretty down bad. Not as bad as it was a few months ago, but it's not great all across the board. That being said, I've never had trouble finding a job, even when I worked for a startup that suddenly went under, I was able to get a job very soon after without a hitch. Basically everyone I know who works in data science is gainfully employed right now and I get contacted fairly often by recruiters to chat about new positions. I'm not sure about the bootcamp route as I am trained via a research masters degree. This is all anecdotal of course, make your own decisions based on the best information you can find.
Yes, that is my observation as well but wanted to get others' opinion. Thank you!
You can try to make a switch internally;
At D, we’ve some departments working to support the delivery; engaging to the project as specialists. And within those departments, we’ve data scientist/data engineering.
I reckon it’ll be the same with EY. You can leverage your domain knowledge to take a secondmend and trying to build up your skills + profile
Oh great suggestion, thank you! But j do believe that EY has been laying people off in tech consulting but I will still definitely look into it!
Maybe before formally switching, see if you can be put in a de/ds role to try it out and make sure you like it. Regardless, also networking with your firms data leaders will help you better understand expectations
Yes, great idea. Thank you!
How much of a pay difference is there in general between finance and data engineer/science
I'm not sure about the long run but it depends. It would be a bit of a step down but would even out in the long run I believe
I was in FP&A space and moved to Data space. You can organically move into data scientist / analyst space but engineering will bit tough as that space is being dominated by yesteryear software engineers. They just bring Docker, kubernetes blah blah to copy a csv file from one storage area to another thus making it unnecessarily complicated
End of the day anything is possible but my recommendation would be data scientist and you can bank on your finance domain knowledge
