Very tough when people have that type of mentality! Once upon a time, that extra work really would help you out in the long run. Now, at least from what I see, it’s thankless to do so. Overworking leads to burnout and poorer results. The best advice is to set the boundaries where you can, and hopefully, others will see that and come around.
Exactly, if I’m not seeing any meaningful results, what’s the point in the extra work.
This is tricky. I sometimes like to finish a job when I start one, I've had so many issues in the past with urgent assets and people scrambling for information with no handover! But this shouldn't be an expectation and I only ever stay 5/10 minutes. If I do stay, I arrive 5/10 minutes later at work the next day or just take an extended lunch. I'm not ever staying for longer unless overtime is on the cards. My workplace is quite flexible sometimes with letting me leave early for various events too so it balances out. I think it's about expectations, trust from your workplace and setting the correct boundaries.
Yeah I like this way of doing it. Working overtime and getting it back later in time off, seems like the best mix when work has to be done when you stay late.
I’m the same way
I’m glad to hear it!
