Are you looking for work elsewhere or just announcing your work anniversary? 20 years at one company is a huge accomplishment, and sort of a lost art these days! I wish I could stay in the same place for 20 years but I know that's so uncommon these days. Jealous that that's not the workforce I was born into

What is a computer operator? What is your job description?

A computer is just a tool to get the job done, kinda like a hammer.

We know how computers work. But if this guy's entire experience is punch cards or something along those lines, it's not exactly transferable.

Edit: saw his other post. He's using an IBM from 1988. There are only a handful of government and old-school firms still using those things.

Congrats on two decades! I hope they gave you a cool acrylic plaque.

I remember doing a little of that in my corporate days. System 36 was what they had before the AS400. We also had a DECVAX. Very specific tasks with operating these. They aren’t like the personal computers others are envisioning.

JCL, IBM 360/370, TSO, CICS, etc.

7 year lawyer here. Been with the same big national firm all 7 years (not BigLaw) doing complex litigation. Been working remote a long time due to moving around for wife’s job. As a result of the moving was bumped off partner track. I’m looking at a great small firm that will be a practice change (but still litigation). I’m told they’re looking for someone with less experience and they’re skeptical because of my experience. It’s frustrating. How do I overcome this?

Just out of curiosity, have you ever started a new job and thought what the hell am I getting myself into?!?
If it was the wrong fit how long did you grin and bear it? 6 months / 1 year / longer?
Did it get better with time or worse? (For instance just a case of lack of know-how)
If you left did you find securing a new job difficult due to only being there for so little time?

Which companies have best WLB, least stressed DS/DA roles? I’ve been suffering from some immunology issues and stress from work would worsen it, therefore I want to move to a company/role with good benefit (esp. healthcare) and great WLB (little chance of PIP, etc). Doesn’t have to be high-paying, as long as it can support my life (single) and long-term medical cost. Thanks in advance.
