This is a very delicate and team effort-type of work dynamic. I have found in my 30 years of experience in just about every imaginable setting, that if all disciplines understand each individual discipline & their role/scope of practice and their role in the care of the patient, then it is easier to have better outcomes for everyone involved. As easy as that sounds, it is definitely not easy to execute.
I have found that using an educational moment along with a snack or beverage or both can help disciplines begin to utilize each others services more efficiently and including the patients in the collaborative process generates a positive sense of ownership for the patient as well as the providers. Getting all participants to be interactive with one another doing something enjoyable and not stressful usually helps to integrate the teams.

That’s an excellent response
Trying to facilitate collaboration has been one of the hardest parts of my job. I feel like the departments at my hospital are hell-bent on not helping each other or ceding any ground in a compromise. Would also love to hear some tips!!

I try to touch point with them when I see them in person too even if I have nothing for them at that time. Just so they get used to seeing me and know me. I want them to feel comfortable approaching me too and know that line of communication is open
