Hi Fishes, I am bit confused to pick the role in KPMG lighthouse as Sr Cloud Data architect or Saama technology as a Project lead. Money wise it is not a big difference. In KPMG I will work with partner where as in saama I will work with project/program manager. Please suggest your opinion. Saama KPMG KPMG India

The negotiation kind of depends on the company. Many roles have set budgets, and I’d start there to know what to expect. If you have more wiggle room, do a lot of research and see what the market average is.
Definitely. Smart on your part to make sure it’ll be an actual raise and not just taking on more work for not much to show for it.
Salary is the hardest to negotiate for internal moves because they know your current salary and usually they'll offer 10-20% more. My last internal move (across countries) I tried to negotiate salary but was told it matches others in similar positions. However, I negotiated relocation package, PTO, demanded they handle all my taxes in both countries and free company car for however long I needed to get settled in (ended up only needing it for 4 months). Obv try negotiating salary but other benefits might be easier to get approved.

Thanks. Those were smart alternate negotiations!! I’m taking notes. Also, average raise even with internal moves is 5%. I hope 20% though.
I would do a slide deck as a business case - this has worked well for me in HR.
If informs a conversation with a boss, shows my value, why I'm worth more, my research - and they can take it to any other manager as proof you did the work, have the knowledge, why you're a fit and to justify what you're asking for.

I will -but would like to hear from real people as well. Thx
Do you have the salary ranges for both roles? Do you have the job descriptions for both roles? What has been the conversation about how you’re progressing in your current role with your manager? Have you done additional research into the market within the role and within your area?

I don’t have a range yet. The job won’t be posted until January (at least that’s what she said).

My experience was that I kept my same level and comp at the time of move, and an upswing level and raise were to be considered at the next performance cycle. I then got a nominal raise and no adjustment to level (equity) that next cycle, amd left the role within the next year.
Others have had much greater success navigating this, though do know that many companies will default to making it a lateral move in these situations.
As the person mentioned above(and as you would know with more experience than myself), it would clearly depend on the organization & their ‘real’ values. However, the comment from “IBM1” is eerily similar to the situation I just walked away from but with a concrete date set. I was foolish enough to take on the extra work for the same pay, seriously regret not just updating my résumé and making myself available 2 yrs ago when this came up. I’ll just say I did well for the company for 6 years, left, and took a job for the title/structure. I was looking for in the beginning. Ended up, finally leaving, twice as much, and couldn’t be happier.
Every situation is different, but I feel like if you have a counter offer or just make yourself available it would be worthwhile. Just based on one occurrence. Good luck!
FYI, first time poster, this just hit home to me.
Definitely look at PTO if they’re not willing to move on salary or if they don’t move very much definitely look at additional days or hours of PTO, even a cruel rates if that’s how your company works PTO.
