Idle thought - do you golf? How much has it been a prereq for your success?

Nope, but I did get left out of some client golfing events.

like

Certainly not a pre requisite but being a good golfer and member at a good club makes clients want to spend 6 hours with me at a time off the clock which has certainly helped forge some strong relationships

Yes. Not a prerequisite, but definitely useful.

like

Pre-req, absolutely not. Has it gotten me invited to internal and client outings with very senior people I wouldn’t have been thought of for otherwise, 100%.

Nope, 0%

No, none

💯

Yes. No pre req for what I have achieved

None whatsoever.

Nope 👎 we going back to the ‘80s?

Nope. I don’t golf. I’ve gone to drink and drive (the carts) but I don’t even know how to golf.

Any in-house antitrust counsel willing to offer up some advice? I just started in a firm's well-regarded antitrust group. What do I do over the next few years to make myself most marketable to move in-house? And when is that move actually feasible/ideal for antitrust specialists?

Seems like I can pull work from the whole discipline (merger clearance, civil lit, criminal) — should I spread myself across all of it to maximize my skillset/marketability?

All thoughts and advice welcome. TYSM :)

Partners, need some career advice. I'm in a niche BU at a big 4 focusing on risk related to certain cutting edge innovations in my industry (intentionally being vague). I'm being heavily recruited by a competitor firm to jump. I have just over 6 YOE, looking to promote in a little over a year (which would still be early at my current firm). To clarify, I'm not looking to leave, but will never say never. Firm looking to poach talks big game RE comp (potential to double my high 100s salary). Cont.

I've heard a couple of things about how the partner pension amount @ PwC is determined, both similar in approach.

Both calculations I have heard of result in an annuity paid until death, at which point a surviving spouse (if any) receives the annuity.

The first calculation I have heard is that you get 80% of your highest earning year as a partner (e.g. If your best year was $1M, you'd get $800k as an annuity).

The second calculation I have heard is that they look at your three highest earning years as a partner, and take the second highest and you get 100% of that. (e.g if your three highest earning years were $1M, $800k, and $1.2M, you'd receive $1M as an annuity).

Is ANY of this true, or just all rumor? Any PwC partners that can chime in and explain the pension plan fact for fact? Perhaps with sample numbers?

PwC is getting a lot of hate out there :(

What are the benefit differences between an equity partner and a non-equity partner (e.g. managing director)?

Partner is pissed at me & judging everything because we disagreed on a deliverable. I was at fault at not giving what was needed even though we disagreed. I respect them, how to fix the relationship?

Big4 partners, do you feel the journey has been worth it when gauging by the variables of money, family, sphere of influence, and happiness? Or industry still seems more alluring? Thanks for your wisdom.
