Partners, need some career advice. I'm in a niche BU at a big 4 focusing on risk related to certain cutting edge innovations in my industry (intentionally being vague). I'm being heavily recruited by a competitor firm to jump. I have just over 6 YOE, looking to promote in a little over a year (which would still be early at my current firm). To clarify, I'm not looking to leave, but will never say never. Firm looking to poach talks big game RE comp (potential to double my high 100s salary). Cont.

Manager level is not a bad time to leave. Yes you will have to rebuild your brand but at this level it’s much easier than SM+. And if it’s another B4, we are pretty similar so red flags would be entirely people-focused. Do you like them? Do you get good vibes from them? Talk to your peers and SMS too, the people you’d be working with closely, not just Partners.

That said, my suggestion would be to ask questions about your transition support.

Finally, if youre primarily interested because of $$, simply talk to your partners about this and ask them to match. Say you love it and you love working with them but it’s really hard to say no to a $xx.

All of this applies unless you’re leaving me. Then no, it’s terrible advice. Stay forever.

Also talking big game RE responsibilities, autonomy, senior leadership visibility, etc.

My biggest concerns with going to a competitor have always been around beaurocracy which we all have, the need to rebuild an internal brand, and most importantly loyalty to partners who have done me right over the years (at a very personal level, not just support at year end).

I've been with my current firm my full career. I guess my current question is, what would you look out for as red flags before taking this sort of thing seriously? Major questions to ask / topics to interrogate in terms of me interviewing them? Career risks with this type of move?

It's nice to be wanted and for them to be coming after me this aggressivley, but I'm in new territory here. I appreciate your counsel.

I’m not sure what your longer term ambitions are but sounds like the second opportunity might give you some experience in building a practice or team from the ground up and that sounds like it can be a big tick or accelerator for you should it go well. And gives you some additional challenges.

You might have receive a huge raise but sounds like you’re being offered another one - maybe this shows how the market really values your skills. I think it is less of a bad move optically and more you reacting to a change of circumstance in a logical way. I think if your leaders genuinely care about you they would care about you no matter where your journey takes you. If they demand unending loyalty despite a great opportunity being provided to you then they are not truly looking out for you on a personal level imo.

A great opportunity with a top brand has come up. I have not actively looked to make a move, but this role and brand looks really promising with a greater earning potential. Down side is I would need to relocate which I do not want to do and would be a challenge for my wife’s job . Any suggestions on how to leverage for a leveling of my current salary and role which I have been told is in the works but I have not seen any sort of movement to give me confidence that it will happen?

I wanted to spread a little positivity this Friday afternoon. I just started a new job after casually interviewing for several months at the start of the year to do a little research on the marketing job market, and then seriously interviewing/searching since May. After coming close with several other jobs but something always going wrong (low ball pay, role put on hold, etc.) I finally got THE job. I’m excited about it, I’m paid well, and fully remote. So don’t settle, and don’t give up! ✨

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!

Hey all - couple question for anyone working at PwC who has been successful in filing their green card under the EB1-C category. How long did you have to wait to get the process started and did you need to get any approvals? I am currently on an L-1A visa and was told by the immigration team that they wouldn’t start the process until I have been with the US firm for 12 months and typically they would start the process 3.5 years prior to the max visa date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
