If I’m 100% sure big law isn’t for me (i.e. don’t want to be partner), is it stupid of me not to take a signing bonus to lateral to another firm?

I’m a rising 3rd year and can probably stick it out 1-2 more years max.

If you know it’s not for you, you should definitely lateral and take the signing bonus!

like

Just lateral every year for fat signing bonus, enjoy ramp up time, and then coast. Rinse, repeat for a few years. And then get out.

like

No, it's not stupid. There are other things that you are allowed to value over money, if you like the people and would rather be in the same place for 8 years as opposed to a different place every other year, staying is still a good choice.

like

It might be much easier to stick it out in one place as opposed to switching frequently, no matter how many years we are talking about. Switching is more stressful than staying to me.

I’m a first-time prospective lateral likely to get an offer shortly. I just received a lateral questionnaire that requests billable hours, rates, fees collected, etc. for the last three years. Forgive my ignorance but is this normal/standard? Do people actually answer these honestly? One of the reasons I’m leaving my firm is there isn’t enough work in my group so of course my hours are low.

So my junior lies a lot. About everything. They work hard and are reasonably smart, but they would swear a black pen is red and vice versa. When you catch them out, they keep digging. I like to think I’m very approachable and would never have an issue with someone not knowing something, needing longer on a deadline, asking questions etc. I’m writing this junior’s review and I’m wondering whether (and, if so, how) to bring this up?
