Typically client side is more money, so a bit of a red flag that in this instance it isn’t. I don’t think job security exists anymore across the board. Get your money.
Client side is manager level role and I'm definitely more senior manager/director level
Job security is an oxymoron and “enjoying what you do” is like wearing a kick-me sign for compensation. Take the money you can make now and explore your options at your leisure, but don’t give yourself a pay cut for no reason.
I just made this switch. But for more money, not less. Agency pay is the low bar, so any client job should not be resulting in less money. Make sure they don’t lowball you!
since i’m at WPP, i’ll take anything to leave at this point lmfao
10-15k is allot & it’s hybrid. I agree. I went to client side to get out of agency. Within a year. I made more than the salary I walked away from. But, my goal was escaping toxic Pharma.
I don’t think I could live off of a salary of $10-$15k
As somebody who went client side, I do believe there is more stability and less burn out. I think a big question is your age. 50 and over should seriously consider client side for stability. If under 50, you’ll have more options and other factors will have more importance in your decision.
Depends how much you make now, and how much you value the flexibility of remote. Many people would take less to be remote, but you’re facing the opposite.
Personally, I think the long term stability of being client-side is preferred. Plus I have confidence in my ability to prove myself and climb the ladder, where as most agencies have very rigid structures that make it hard to move up
Inside a company on the client side I have no idea why they are paid more. Not for nothing but they typically hire the same idiots that work at the agency. In my opinion with technology it takes a monkey to run small to mid size companies advertising. The key is a good graphics branding person maybe outsource to someone skilled and then one monkey to set campaigns. Most small business owners through pain all do it themselves and are much more savy then some 30 year ol marketing person. True story
How much will it change your monthly take home, percentage wise? With taxes it’s probably $200 or so each paycheck. Is that going to kill you?
Couple other thoughts:
1. Is there a bonus brand side? Tends to be more likely than in agency roles.
2. Brand side may not give you much more job security but it will give you a chance to keep working after you turn 40.
