If you had to travel for J1, would you take PTO for J2, etc?

If not, how do you explain your change in location or do you not say where you are?

If you do, do you take the day before and the day after for travel days?

Most likely yes since I would assume you would be in several in person meetings for J1 and this would not be able to access laptop for J2 at the same time. Unless you are an IC with no meetings those days probably safer to take pto or call in sick those days.

like

Your response makes complete sense! If the job requires travel, I would suspect that in-person meetings are part of it. One may consider completing tasks for J2 after "the day", but it could make the day longer. If the PTO is paid, then it's a win-win.

Can you name a firm (preferably NY office) that lets its associates work from a different country with no issues? The mid-size firm I’m currently at has been very flexible during covid but I’m looking to change firm (biglaw). Since my family is abroad I find it extremely valuable to be able to do this (I did this even before covid for a couple of weeks, twice a year). I’ve heard firms like Latham and Paul Weiss don’t allow it for tax reasons.

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

I really want to get a second job but I am scared of losing my current one. Both companies are in same field, although not direct competitors so I know it’s technically “not allowed” however, this is the only way for me to get that $$ since I am not paid all that well.

Of course I won’t tell a single friend/coworker. Only my partner. And I don’t post work stuff on social media.

The first rule of overemployment is dont talk about overemployment to anyone outside your house. :). Second: always protect the main job. I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs.
